Contains information pertaining to the following military unit and organization: 26th United States Cavalry Regiment, U.S. Chemical Warfare Service. General description of the collection: Chester L. Johnson papers include a box of two typescript copies of a memoir narrative entitled, WEST POINT'S TRAGIC LOSS HONORED BY MEMORIALS AT CABANATUAN. It is the story of American prisoners of war (POWs); of the Japanese; their terrible conditions; privations; tortures; and many, many deaths as well as the great heroics of those who survived. A shorter version was published in West Point's Assembly, June 1986 and March 1987. Papers also include typescripts: One entitled, "A combat history of the U.S. 26th Cavalry", by William E. Chandler and another, "Prisoner of war 1942-1945 : reminiscences of Armand Hopkins", by Armand Hopkins as well as papers related to the Chemical Warfare Service in the Philippine Islands during World War II.
